The release of 2017 Topps Series One baseball will include a special pack giveaway program designed drive traffic to sports card shops. Topps announced plans for the promotion in late December but full details and a checklist are now available ahead of Wednesday’s release.
For every hobby box purchased at participating shops, collectors will receive a free pack of four Chrome style cards printed in the 1987 “wood grain” design. For every Jumbo box purchased, participating dealers will hand out two packs.
Each pack contains Topps Chrome Refractor baseball cards of Hall of Famers, veterans, future stars and rookies on the 1987 Topps design with a chance at rare Refractor parallels and autographs.
Some of the most cards in the set will include many of the popular players featured on 2017 baseball rookie cards such as Andrew Benintendi, Alex Bregman, Aaron Judge, Dansby Swanson, and Orlando Arcia. The 50-card base set will also include stars such as Kris Bryant, Mike Trout, Jose Altuve, and Miguel Cabrera.
The base level for the Chrome cards come in a prism-like Refractor with numbered parallels that feature a different color border such as Green (numbered to 150), Blue (numbered to 99), Orange (numbered to 75), Gold (numbered to 50), Red (numbered to 5), and Black (numbered 1-of-1).
Many than 20 players will have autographs in the set including Benintendi, Bregman, Judge, Clayton Kershaw, Francisco Lindor, Mike Trout, Yoenis Cespedes and other stars. The autographs will also feature three different levels of parallels: Gold (numbered to 25), Red (numbered to 5) and Black (numbered 1-of-1).
Autographed cards and parallels will be randomly inserted throughout the packs.
Topps says the promotion is a “thank you” to dealers and collectors and modeled after its redemption program at the National Sports Collectors Convention.
