The return of Stephen Strasburg was a success and Topps is breathing a sigh of relief. The company put a lot of stock in the young pitcher last year and just hours before he threw his first pitch Tuesday night against the Dodgers, the company announced some new initiatives tied into some of the last baseball card products of 2011.
Topps is adding Strasburg autographed cards to its 2011 Bowman Sterling issue, with the signatures applied to a photo taken from last night’s game. In addition, there will be 25 redemption cards packed inside, each good for a Strasburg autographed baseball.
The biggest prize, though, is a 1-1 redemption card good for a meet and greet with Strasburg at some future date.
In 2010, Strasburg captivated fans and collectors alike with his blazing fastball. After undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of last year, he returned to the Nationals’ rotation a little earlier than expected. So far, so good.
