As the year winds down, we’re taking a look at the top-selling sports cards and memorabilia sold through major auction companies in 2018.
Two of the most expensive baseball card sets sold at auction in 2018 changed hands during the first half of the year and both were sold through Mile High Card Company.
The third-ranked set of 1959 Topps on PSA’s Set Registry was offered both as a set or through bidding on individual cards. This time, the set won out with a realized price of $295,746. All but 12 of the 572 cards in the set were graded 9 and over 60 percent rated as the highest graded examples.
Three months earlier, Mile High had sold the number one-ranked 1965 Topps set for $204,613. This set would be tough to top. Over one-third of the cards in the collection, 211 in all, were graded PSA 10 with 22 of them listed as the only 10s on record. The set’s GPA was an astounding 9.848.
