Over two dozen items from the personal collection of Tony Gwynn including his Hall of Fame induction ring and 3,000th hit baseball are on the auction block. SCP Auctions has them in its current catalog, with bidding set to close Saturday, January 21.
It marks the second time the company is offering items directly from Gwynn’s widow Alicia, who says a portion of the proceeds will go toward the Tony and Alicia Gwynn Foundation, a non-profit, youth-oriented charity in San Diego. Another group of items was sold in 2015.
In all, over two dozen lots of Gwynn memorabilia are in the current auction. In addition to the Hall of Fame ring and 3,000th hit baseball, four of his silver bats commemorating N.L. batting titles are on the block along with five of his All-Star Game rings; two Silver Slugger Awards; and the ball he hit for his first major league home run in 1982.
“My husband was a man of honor and integrity who really wanted to make a difference in this world,” said Alicia Gwynn. “Just like the first auction, this one serves two objectives: to share his baseball memorabilia with the fans who loved him and to give something back to the city that treated us so well.”
