Three of the most extensive and carefully curated collections of autographed baseballs will be up for grabs this spring.
All have been consigned to Heritage Auctions’ Signature Sports Auction, set to conclude April 22.
The company says the auction will include the “widest assortment” of Hall of Fame autographs ever offered in one single event. The list includes scarce autographs from Grover Cleveland Alexander, Hack Wilson, Mel Ott, Chick Hafey, Chuck Klein, Heinie Manush, Ernie Lombardi, Clark Griffith, George Weiss and Sam Rice and others.
Other signed baseballs come with special notations from well-known players including Roberto Clemente, who added the inscription “Last Game at Forbes Field” to the single-signed baseball.
Babe Ruth, Jimmie Foxx and Ty Cobb are represented by high-grade examples, as well.
“This is an auction that no autograph collector will be able ignore,” said Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Collectibles at Heritage. “The rarity and condition throughout is astonishing. I think it’s safe to say you’ll never see another offering like it.”
“We want to get the word out to collectors now so they will have time to budget and plan,” said Ivy.
