They may not be the greatest franchise on the field, but the Tampa Bay Devil Rays are now a "must-see" baseball tourist attraction thanks to the opening of the Ted Williams Museum at Tropicana Field. That famous personalized Babe Ruth ball is the first thing visitors will see.
Babe Ruth’s granddaughter joined Ted Williams’ daughter Claudia at opening ceremonies for the Ted Williams Museum at Tropicana Field. The Museum and ‘Hitters Hall of Fame’ was relocated to the stadium after low attendance forced it’s closure at a different location last spring.
The Babe signed a ball for young Ted back in the late 1930s. Stolen in the 1980s, the ball was returned when it was discovered as a consignment to a sports memorabilia auction late last year. It was unveiled this week as the centerpiece of the museum’s displays.
