Most of the time they’re actually working on baseball skills, but for one day, players at spring training settle in to sign a mountain of memorabilia for the team’s own use.

Charities often ask Major League Baseball teams to cough up autographed items for their auctions. The teams themselves also have causes and responsibilities near and dear to them. The result is an almost insatiable desire for signed items, one they try to quench by having the players sit down for a big in-house autograph session that will create stock they can distribute throughout the season.
The Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks players recently took care of their responsibilities in the club’s spring training press box, with thousands of items awaiting autographs.
