Bronx native Tony Apuzzi has been collecting autographs for about 15 years. He’s accumulated hundreds over the years, with a focus on the Yankees.
Ten years ago, he saw potential in a young sixth grader in his classroom. Not wanting to see her fail in an atmosphere that was challenging at best, Apuzzi cut a deal with the girl.
Stay in school and stay out of trouble and he’d pay her college tuition.
It was amazingly generous, but as years ticked away, Apuzzi didn’t have much money available to meet the cost of college. He decided to sell some autographed Yankee championship baseballs and other items.
But that’s only part of the story. LoHud.com chronicled what happened next.
