Sports card and memorabilia shop owners in south Florida are fighting through the economy.
It’s a vacation spot and an area of the country where there are some people with dollars to spend.
Yet the sports memorabilia business in south Florida is much like it is everywhere else. One chain has shut its doors–unable to make it through changing times. Other, small shops have closed over the years.
Still, some are doing OK even if they have noticed a drop-off in business. A few of their former customers are also coming to sell in hopes of paying bills that aren’t being covered by regular income.
”People aren’t bringing in the really cherished stuff — the [Mickey] Mantle rookies, that kind of stuff,” says one shop owner. “Those people are sitting pat.”
The Miami Herald checked the pulse of the hobby for some area businesses.
