One of what are likely less than 100 T206 Honus Wagner cards in existence is on the eBay auction block. Memory Lane Inc. is offering the PSA 2 example from a long-time private collection that was recently broken up and sold.
Beauty is often in the eye of the beholder when it comes to Wagner cards. They often set new records thanks in large part to the demand for the hobby’s ‘holy grail’. A PSA 1 example sold for $399,500 in the 2009 Robert Edward Auctions catalog sale. In 2010, a different PSA 1 brought $282,000 for REA. A few months later, a card graded ‘Authentic’ that had been consigned to auction by a group of nuns who had inherited it, sold for over $200,000 and in 2009 an SGC 40 copy sold for a somewhat shocking $925,000.
Five years ago, a PSA 2 sold via Memory Lane for $294,337 and in April of 2005, another brought $236,706 at auction.
The highest price paid for a Wagner was $2.8 million for the well known PSA 8 example. It’s part of the collection of Arizona Diamondbacks’ owner Ken Kendrick.
