It would be a nice, tidy profit if there is someone out there with $2.5 million in Christmas cash….
Just four months after it was purchased at auction, a PSA 5-graded T206 Honus Wagner card is for sale again.
John Rogers, the Arkansas businessman who bought the card for $1.62 million at a Mastro Auctions sale in August, has placed it back on the block–this time through eBay. His new asking price? $2.5 million.
Considering an SGC 40 (VG) Wagner recently sold for $791,000, it’s unlikely a buyer will be found at $2.5 million, but Rogers touting his as a ‘jumbo’ Wagner, one with unusually large borders he considers "guardians of a NM/MT to MT card inside". The card has a "MC" designation from PSA, meaning it is considered to be miscut.
Regardless of whether a buyer is found, Rogers stands to benefit as one of a number of eBay sellers who sometimes place unique items for sale as a way to generate interest for their other auction listings. The Wagner auction is scheduled to close on Christmas Eve at 5 PM Pacific time.
