Amar Shah has a tobacco addiction. No, not that kind. He’s become obsessed with tobacco baseball cards…specifically the T206 set.
The southern California-based reborn collector took the plunge earlier this year, to the tune of a few thousand dollars. It’s easy to do when you’re buying cards from one of the most popular sets in existence and they’re not exactly flowing over the sides of the bargain bin of your local card shop.
T206 commons are affordable, but with hundreds of cards in the set, the cost can count up fast if you’re not careful.
Now, the brakes have been applied.
In a column for ESPN.com’s Page 2, Shah provides a chuckle or two as he weighs the magnetic appeal of the century-old set vs. the reality of financial limits and a skeptical wife.
