An example of one of sports collecting’s most famous face is coming on the auction block next week. Mile High Card Company will offer a T206 Honus Wagner at the top of its catalog, one that includes over 1,600 lots in all.
It’s not the only big ticket item on the docket, though.
MHCC will also offer the highest graded card from the famed “Lucky 7 Find,” a PSA 4.5 T206 Ty Cobb with the Cobb Tobacco advertising back, a 1968 Mickey Mantle autographed game-used jersey, possibly dating to his final major league game and the partial box of unopened 1948 Bowman baseball packs. All four should bring six-figure prices.
“This auction is going to be incredible”, said MHCC President and CEO Brian Drent, “The significance of the four headliners speak for themselves but just going down the list beyond that, it’s one museum-quality item after another. We can’t wait to see this auction steer the hobby to an all-time high.”
In addition to the T206 Wagner and Cobb, this auction will feature other key vintage cards including the only graded examples of the 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco Mickey Welch (PSA 1) and the 1904 Pittsburg Leader Honus Wagner schedule card, a 1909 T206 Sweet Caporal Series 150/30 Eddie Plank (SGC 1.5), two 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth cards (both PSA 8), a 1948 Bowman #18 Warren Spahn rookie (PSA 9), a 1952 Topps Mantle (SGC 7.5), a 1955 Topps Roberto Clemente rookie card (PSA 7), a 1956 Topps Mantle (PSA 8), a 1966 Topps Mantle (PSA 9), a 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie (PSA 9) and a 1981 Topps #Joe Montana rookie (PSA 10).
