A near complete T206 baseball set as well as some other rare cards from the popular issue are among the standouts in Huggins & Scott’s latest catalog auction.
Huggins and Scott Auctions is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the T206 baseball card issue in its newly released May catalog and internet auction.
The full color catalog opens with a 1909-11 T206 near set (520 of 524 cards), the extremely rare T206 Eddie Plank and T206 Sherry Magie (Magee error. There are also several large groupings from the T206 set, affectionately dubbed "The Monster" and an large and varied array of sports cards, memorabilia, Americana and autographs.
The 300-page full-color catalog features 1557 lots of sports and non-sports cards and memorabilia. Bidding began Sunday.
Huggins and Scott will again offer their new graduated buyer’s premium concept, designed to save bidders money and increase the profits for consignors. Huggins and Scott says the idea proved to be a success with the bidders as hammer prices showed a moderate increase in an unstable economy.
In addition to the rare baseball cards above, vintage sports card collectors will have a chance to bid on a near complete graded 1894 Mayo N302 Football card set and a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle (PSA 6) and a litany of other graded sports cards.
In addition to some high quiality vintage and modern sports cards, the auction will feature a variety of rare sports memorabilia including a single-signed Babe Ruth baseball, a 1927 Philadelphia Athletics signed team ball with Cobb, Foxx, Wheat, Mack, Simmons; a 1951 NY Yankees signed team baseball; a game-used bat collection that includes a 1925 Ken Williams, a 1927-30 Rogers Hornsby as well as 1970s lumber from Aaron, Bench, Rose, Schmidt and others. There is a collection of NFL pioneer Bert Bell signed checks including those autographed by names like Mara, Halas, Hewitt, O’Brien and Carr, dozens of UDA autographed items to include Tiger Woods, MJ, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and more.
Other notable items include hundreds of quality autographs including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx and dozens of rare Hall of Famers, dozens of limited edition Mystery Cuts from Upper Deck Sweet Spot with Einstein, Reagan and Brando (all 1/1); a game worn Mark Messier NY Rangers jersey and a 1983 Phillies NL Championship ring.
