With two offenses capable of putting up a lot of points, the footballs will be flying Sunday night in Super Bowl LIII…and all 104 special Wilson balls created for use in the game will carry PSA/DNA authentication.
As it has for over 15 years, a company representative will tag each ball with a special synthetic DNA prior to the game.
A total of 12 “kicking balls” will also be tagged as will the two-tone coin used in the Super Bowl LIII coin toss just prior to kickoff.
The mark is visible only when illuminated by a specific laser frequency. The nearly unnoticeable tags are virtually impossible to replicate, with odds of a fake pegged at 1-in-33 trillion.
“PSA/DNA’s proprietary technology enables us to stay one big step ahead of the counterfeiters,” said PSA President Steve Sloan.
Following Super Bowl 53, a portion of the PSA/DNA-authenticated items will be auctioned off on www.nflauction.nfl.com to benefit the NFL and various team charities. The remaining items will be split between the Patriots and Rams organizations.
