A near-lifelong sports card collection is gone in minutes.
Law enforcement officers in the southeast are looking for a card thief.
Earlier this week, someone broke into the home of Bart Wayne Dillow, a collector from Lillington, North Carolina and stole a collection of about 11,000 cards he valued at over $40,000.
The Hartnett County Sheriff’s Office says the break-in occurred Tuesday with the card collection and jewelry belonging to Dillow’s wife carted out in a laundry basket.
“They came in my house and went right for the cards,” Dillow told the Fayetteville Observer.
Stolen were numerous high dollar vintage cards including Nolan Ryan rookie cards, and others featuring Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. Also missing are authenticated modern era items highlighted by a graded Alex Rodriguez rookie and some Brett Favre rookie cards. No specifics on the stolen cards such as brand or year were available.
The value of the jewelry was $1450.
Area pawn shops have been alerted in case the stolen items are brought in.
