If you’re constantly worried about getting that necktie dirty and the dry cleaning bill that follows, you could always buy one that’s supposed to have a little wear.
Steiner Sports has just launched a new line of ties made from game-used jerseys, some of which still bear the scars of competition.
Thus far, only those for the New York Rangers and Yankees are available. Steiner owns the rights to handle game-worn goods for both franchises.
Each is hand-stitched using pieces of game-worn jerseys from the recent past. Priced—at least for now—at $99.99, the ties are definitely colorful. They carry the Steiner Sports logo on the back.
While complete game-used jerseys for star players usually sell well, there isn’t always a market for lesser players. Turning a $250 jersey into several ties is one way to clear out inventory.
It’s a novel concept—sort of. Another company has been using game-used, authenticated jerseys, bats and other items to create various products. Tokens & Icons out of Berkeley, CA has built a business created all sorts of things including wallets with an interior crafted from jerseys ($199).
