A copy of No More Vietnams by Richard M. Nixon from iconic basketball coach Bob Knight’s book collection – which includes a personally signed letter from the U.S. President to the legendary coach – highlights the artifacts featured in the Steiner Sports Memorabiliaon-line Fall Classic Auction.
Steiner sold hundreds of items from Knight’s personal collection last year. The current items from the collection total 259 new lots, including a wide-variety of book, his All-Time March Madness Team Award, three signed Indiana Canvas 25 Artist Proofs, Knight’s 2013 NCAA Final Four folding chair, and 1984 Olympic Gold Medal Game Box Score Wood Plaque.
The book is accompanied by a signed, typewritten letter from Nixon to Knight.
Baseballs signed on the “sweet spot” by Hall of Famers Walter Johnson, Joe DiMaggio and Honus Wagner are also among the artifacts in the auction.
Memorabilia from the collection of best-selling author Jeffrey Gitomer features various items from the storied Philadelphia Phillies franchise, the 1957 Braves, immortal boxing heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, football and basketball Hall of Famers, and 1939 baseball players, including World’s Fair cards signed by baseball icons Babe Ruth, Jimmie Fox, Joe DiMaggio, and Hank Greenberg.
The Ali artifacts include signed gloves, signed cut, and signed painted canvas of Ali with the Olympic Torch. Phillies memorabilia signed by such 1960 vintage players as Richie Ashburn, Mike Schmidt, Jim Bunning, and Johnny Callison are also in the auction.
Other lots include autographed artifacts signed by hoops legends John Wooden, Dolph Schayes, and Charles Barkley and grid iron greats Bart Starr, Jack Lambert, Roger Staubach, Jim Taylor, and Sam Huff.
