High-end modern cards drew six-figure commitments, a “true” Jordan rookie set a record and a Travis Kelce Super Bowl jersey in a Labor Day auction finale.
Eight lots sold for over $100,000 as Goldin closed out its August Elite Auction, topped by a PSA 8 1984-85 Star Company Michael Jordan that netted $244,000–a record price for the grade.
The sale came just a couple of days after a PSA 7 example sold on eBay for $62,000 as the market for Jordan’s first NBA licensed trading card continues to sizzle. Goldin also sold a PSA 6.5 copy for $52,460.
Despite his injury troubles dating back several years now, collectors chased a 1-1 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor Autograph card of Mike Trout with the PSA 9 example bringing $192,030.
Two Bowman Chrome Red Refractor parallels featuring active stars before they were famous set new records. A 2011 Bryce Harper #5/5 graded PSA 9 sold for $184,720 while a 2014 Mookie Betts #3/5 graded PSA 10 netted $123,220.
A pair of PSA 10 2024 Topps Chrome Autographed SuperFractor 1/1s were offered: The Elly De La Cruz realized $116,534 while the Jackson Holliday ended at $68,527. The De La Cruz, Betts and Holliday sales represent the highest public sales recorded for those players.
The Ronaldo/Messi SuperFractor dual auto from 2023-24 Topps UEFA pulled by a breaker in England and turned over to Goldin at the recent London Card show, soared to $67,100 after being graded 9 by PSA.
Kelce’s 2020-21 Super Bowl LV jersey was the top memorabilia item in the auction. Photomatched to the Kansas City Chiefs’ 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers in Tampa, the jersey netted $52,460. Kelce’s AFC championship ring from that season sold for $34,404.
A jersey worn by Aaron Judge in his 2017 rookie season and matched to one of his record-setting 52 home runs, went for $51,240.
