One of the longer-running shows in Chicago has been cancelled.
It was a busy year for major sports card and memorabilia shows in Chicago.
The Sun-Times shows, PCCE, SportsFest, and finally, the National Sports Collectors Convention left collectors with no excuses for unchecked want lists. Now, one of those events is going away for good.
According to Auction Report, a letter from Jeff Pozorski, Group Publisher of F&W Media, Inc (F&W Media owns SportsFest) was sent to all of the exhibitors of SportsFest 2008 informing them that “after evaluating the recently completed show, the decision has been made to no longer produce SportsFest.” The letter also states that refunds from deposits will be credited back to exhibitors.
Schwartz Sports/Mounted Memories announced plans last week to hold a large show at the Stephens Convention Center during the summer of 2009, leading to speculation that SportsFest was likely headed for the history books.
