Central Indiana may be hoops country but baseball is what drives one collector to take a long trip every year.
Former English teacher Byron Buker appreciates the written word more than most, but he’d rather it be in ink, not on a computer screen.
Buker is a die-hard sports collector, with a love of baseball cards but a passion for autographed baseballs.
He’s one of Rawlings’ best customers, buying pristine white baseballs by the box full, reserving a spot on each for the autographs of any major league players he can find–and some minor leaguers on the way up.
Buker makes a pilgrimage to spring training each year, where he’s not shy about grabbing the extra signature. He talked about his hobby with the local newspaper.
