Late season baseball and pre-season football releases will dominate the sports card release calendar during the first half of August.
Here’s a look at some of what’s on its way to hobby shops, online retailers and breakers.

2020 Topps Luminaries Baseball
Luminaries (click the link to see the newly released checklist) returns with the usual configuration of one hand-signed autographed or autographed relic card per box, each numbered to 15 or less. While most cards will be of the one signature variety, there are some monsters hiding inside including a few different fold-out booklet cards carrying dozens of signatures.
Boxes are available for around $270 on eBay.

2020 Topps Chrome Baseball
Not to be confused with Chrome Black set for release later in the year, 2020 Topps Chrome makes its annual return to the calendar, giving a shiny touch to selected cards from the flagship set. The base set is 200 cards and as always, you’ll find a boatload of parallels. One new feature are the Retro Rookie Chrome Relics, which reproduce some classic Topps rookie cards from the past and include a relic piece.
Standard issue Hobby boxes will again carry 24 packs of four cards with two autographs per box. They’re available on eBay for around $250-$275 per box. Jumbo boxes will have 12 packs per box with 13 cards including five autographs. Jumbos are also available online for about $390.
2020 Panini Gold Standard Football
Gold Standard offers seven cards per “gold bar” including five hits. Rookie Jersey Autographs will be among the attractions. Tougher pulls include Super Bowl Diamond Signatures, which have a
diamond embedded in the card with an autograph from a Super Bowl champion (or two). They’ll be numbered to 5 or less.
Box prices have been a bit of a wild ride ahead of release but you can land one for $350-$400 on eBay right now.

2020 Panini Elements Football
More weighty cards from Panini with each single pack box of Elements containing four cards including a base metal or rookie metal card, an on-card autograph, an additional autograph and one memorabilia card.
New this year is Heavy Metal, which will feature some of the NFL’s biggest men. Mettle Moments will capture great moments from the recent and distant past.
Elements is available for around $285-$295 per box on eBay now.
2020 Bowman Sterling Baseball
After its comeback season of 2019, this year’s version of 2020 Bowman Sterling will contain five packs in a hobby box, with six cards to a pack. Every pack will include an autographed card, while the other five cards will be numbered to 199 or less.
As a Bowman brand, it’s heavy on prospects and rookies.
At current prices, you’ll be hoping to get lucky with the autograph or score some low numbered parallels of a hot rookie or two.
