Hockey releases begin to trickle out as NHL training camps approach but the next couple of weeks will also bring in some fresh baseball, football and basketball products.
Here’s a look at what to expect between August 28 and September 10.
2018-19 Panini Obsidian Basketball (8/28)
Launched awhile back as a football product, Obsidian makes its NBA debut as an online exclusive on Panini’s website.
Each $120 box will have two autographs, two parallels or inserts and one base or rookie card per box. Rookie Jersey Autos will be numbered to 75 or less. Autographs appear to be on stickers, according to Panini’s preview images.
2019 Panini Absolute Football (8/28)
One of the longest running football products in the hobby, Absolute will offer three five-card packs per box with five hits including three autographs, one of which will be a Rookie Premiere Materials card.
The memorabilia cards won’t all be jersey swatches. Look for gloves, pants, socks, cleats helmets, hats and jackets, too.
Rookie Premiere Materials will have standard and autograph versions with multiple pieces of memorabilia possible. All are numbered no higher than 399.
2019 Absolute football is available on eBay for around $170 per box.
2019 Topps Five Star Baseball (8/28)
Once again, Five Star keeps it short and sweet with boxes that contain only two cards–both autographed.
New this year is Pentamerous Penmanship, which will use a shadow box design and carry serial numbering no higher than 25.
Boxes are currently running about $150 on eBay.
2019 Contenders Draft Picks Basketball (9/4)
As we chronicled last week, Panini tried to release their First Off The Line boxes of Contenders DP last week but so many people tried to access their website, it crashed and things were postponed. Now, it appears there won’t be much of a gap between the FOTL boxes and the regular ones.
Zion Williamson is, of course, the big drawing card in the product, which pictures this year’s draftees in their college uniforms but includes six autographs per box.
Box prices have jumped by more than double the original SRP but still selling. The best eBay price right now is $300-$325.
2019 Topps Luminaries Baseball (9/4)
Back for another year, 2019 Topps Luminaries has a single encased autographed card per box, all numbered to 15 or less.
The monster hits are the 1/1 book cards, a couple of which have 40 or 50 autographs.
The best online price right now is around $300 at SportsMemorabilia.com.
2019-20 Upper Deck O-Pee-Chee Hockey 9/5
One of the hobby’s throwback products returns with its 600-card base set, some new inserts done in the style of old-school caramel cards, team checklists and other nods to the hockey cards from decades ago.
There’s also an insert with highlights from the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
Each box will have 18 packs of 10 cards. They’re online now for $79.99.
