It’s a start. A trophy and some scrapbooks belonging to retired tennis great Pete Sampras and reported stolen last month have been recovered.
A break-in at a West Los Angeles storage complex Sampras had been renting resulted in the loss of millions of dollars worth of championship trophies and other memorabilia from throughout his record-setting career.
Police say a citizen found the items in an L.A. park. There has been no other information regarding the dozens of other tournament trophies, autographed items and other pieces stolen from two storage units Sampras had been renting.
Among the stolen items was an Australian Open trophy. Because many of the items are so unique, it’s not likely thieves would be able to sell them as is without getting into trouble.
