Soccer card collectors had a show of their own to go to during the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland last month.
They’ll have an even bigger event next year in Chicago.
Promoters of the SoCo Expo held their first ever all-soccer cards show at the UAW hall in Parma, OH during the evening hours of the National on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The event was about 12-15 minutes from the National and organizers provided shuttles to and from both events. Admission to the soccer show was free and it turned out to be an unqualified success.
About 2,000 people from 30 countries turned out, according to show promoters. The show included 110 tables, with free food and giveaways. They hired armed security to patrol the floor.
Next year’s show is set for July 31-Aug. 2 at a still undetermined location that won’t be far from the Stephens Convention Center, site of next year’s NSCC.
Promoters say they’ll be doubling the floor space that was available for the first show and plan to have just under 200 tables at the Chicago area event.
A specific location hasn’t been booked yet but they say they have at least three venues that have offered space.
