Tuesday he was front page news in the New York Times. Now, Jack Smalling’s baseball autograph hobby/business is on TV.
He’s been shipping around 1800 copies of The Baseball Autograph Collector’s Handbook.
We’re guessing 2009 sales are about to jump.
Jack Smalling, a familiar name to autograph collectors for man years, is getting some attention for his unique publication. His book offers up home and other mailing addresses for big league ballplayers past and present. It’s a valuable resource for collectors who reach out to players by mail.
Smalling lives in Ames, Iowa where he still collects, but also sells copies of the book to fans and collectors all over the world. He was on the front page of the New York Times Tuesday morning. By that evening, KCCI-TV in nearby Des Moines was dropping by to chat for a feature story.
