Over 200 1930s autographed 1930s Goudey baseball cards including two each featuring Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx headline the third installment of the “Uncle Jimmy Collection” now up for bids at Wheatland Auctions.
The online catalog includes over 170 signed 1933 Goudeys, 34 signed ‘34 Goudeys and numerous other vintage autographed cards, all collected by Jimmy Micioni, who wrote to the players decades ago as part of a lifelong devotion to collecting.
There were six signed Ruth cards in the collection, which is being sold by family members. One sold earlier this month for $153,400. All now authenticated by PSA, the cards had been carefully stored in the same New Jersey home since they were acquired.
Signed cards from other Hall of Famers in the current auction include ‘33 Goudey cards of Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins and Tony Lazzeri. There are signed ‘34 Goudeys of Gehrig, Hank Greenberg, Dizzy Dean and 31 others. Some of the cards in the auction are the only known signed copies of those cards in existence.
There are over 40 signed 1939-1941 Play Ball cards including a Ted Williams rookie and numerous other signed rookie cards including Satchel Paige, Enos Slaughter and Harmon Killebrew.
Some valuable Type 1 photos from Uncle Jimmy’s collection are in the auction including Ruth (1930s George Burke), Gehrig (1930s George Burke), and Mantle (1952 Don Wingfield).
In all, the Wheatland Auction includes over 700 items. Other highlights include a 2003-04 Lebron James Topps Chrome Refractor Rookie Card Graded BGS 9.5 Gem Mint (Est. $50,000-$60,000), single signed baseballs of Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Walter Johnson, Pie Traynor, Thurman Munson, and others, a Michael Jordan signed Chicago Bulls Jersey and a high-quality 1986 Fleer Basketball Set with stickers, featuring the Michael Jordan rookie card, numerous vintage sets, graded modern era rookie cards and numerous PSA 10 1970s sports cards.
