The second highest ranked 1968 Topps Baseball set on the PSA Registry is about to go on the auction block where it could bring a seven-figure price.
Heritage Auctions will offer the set as part of its Fall Sports Card Auction set to open Friday, Sept. 13.
The set includes 517 of the 598 cards in Gem Mint 10 condition with the remaining 81 rated PSA 9.
Among the 10s is the Johnny Bench rookie card (#247), Mickey Mantle (#280) and the trio card of Mantle, Willie Mays and Harmon Killebrew (#490). The Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman rookie card is graded 9.
Heritage has placed a $1.2 million pre-sale estimate on the set, which will be sold in its entirety.
The top-ranked 1968 set was broken up and sold earlier this year for $1.1 million. That one included PSA 10 copies of the Mantle, Bench, Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente and a PSA 9 Ryan rookie.
A remarkable nearly complete autographed set of 1968 Topps is also part of the auction. The set includes a total of 607 autographs.
The auction also includes the 18th best 1951 Bowman baseball set on the PSA Registry, which is expected to bring $150,000 or more, a complete 1952 Topps set with a PSA 8 o/c Mantle that carries a pre-sale estimate of $350,000 and the fourth best 1980 Topps set. Two Registry hockey sets—1961 and 1969 Topps are also part of the online catalog.
Dozens of other sets, several in high-grade, populate the catalog.
The auction will close over three nights, Oct. 4-6.
