Have a winning team or a big time superstar in your town? You ride the wave. But when things not going so well for the local heroes…
Once upon a time, Denver was a hotbed of good sports teams.
The Broncos won Super Bowls.
The Avs took the Stanley Cup.
The Nuggets weren’t bad and the Rockies were still a novelty.
Life is tougher these days for fans of Colorado’s pro franchises , but especially if you’re a guy who depends on the popularity of those teams to make a living. The autographed jerseys, footballs and cards of the local guys don’t attract quite as much attention when there’s little buzz.
The Denver Post stopped by one sports collectibles shop to see how they were faring. Luckily, the local teams don’t make up the entire inventory.
"A bad run hits the local sports fans’ psyches, and it trickles down to us, because then you have to kind of live in the past," says owner Bill Vizas.
