Shots from the baseline can be exciting in basketball. Especially deep in the corner, from 3-point range. Very sweet. Panini America is putting out its own kind of base shot with its 2015-16 Select Basketball product, which is scheduled to be released on Wednesday.
The Breakdown
The 300-card base set will be sorted into three types of cards — Concourse, Premier Level and Courtside. Each version will contain 100 cards, with some cards more difficult to chase than others.
Concourse will fall three cards to a pack, with 10 Premier and two Courtside per box.
A hobby box will contain 12 packs, with five cards per pack. Panini is promising three autograph or memorabilia cards in each one with the current online pricing in the $110 to $125 range.
2015-16 Select Basketball Prizms
Prizms will be a big attraction for collectors, and expect to find at least 12 in every hobby box. Each will be numbered to 249 or less, with parallels in black and green, plus Tie-Dye Prizms numbered to 25. The Tie-Dies might be the nicest cards in the set. The mockups reveal a vibrant-looking card front.
Relic cards will include Sparks Gold Prizms.
On Card Autographs
Panini is promising on-card signatures of 35 rookies and 60 veterans, which will be a relief to those who aren’t crazy about stickers.
If you’re a collector who enjoys brightly colored, shiny cards with on-card signatures, then 2015-16 Select might be worth checking out. It’s a potentially interesting mix of strong base cards and autographs. At about $2 per card, though, the trio of base card offerings will have to be more like a slam dunk than a pretty baseline J.
