Some of the hobby’s best post-War autographed baseball cards are among hundreds of items expected to find new homes this month.
SCP Auctions is offering a 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle with a PSA/DNA 10 autograph grade and a signed copy of Roberto Clemente’s 1955 Topps rookie card are the headliners among a collection of dozens of impressive signed cards.
The company’s Spring Premier also includes a signed 1952 Topps Willie Mays with a 9 autograph grade.
The auction features items from a variety of categories including trading cards, game-used items, rare historic photos, autographs and other memorabilia.
Fans of pre-War cads will find a 1911 T205 Gold Border Christy Mathewson graded PSA NM-MT 8, one of two examples of the 1922 E120 American Caramel Babe Ruth to be graded PSA NM-MT 8, a 1958-62 Exhibit Cassius Clay autograph card graded BVG NM 7 with a Beckett 9 auto and a 1977 Crack Futbol Campeonato Disc Diego Maradona rookie graded PSA EX-MT 6.
The sale also includes some premium modern cards. The highest graded copy of the 2004 Upper Deck SP Authentic Quadruple Signatures with autographs from Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Carmelo Anthony numbered to 15 and graded 8.5 by BGS joins 1984-85 Star Co. Michael Jordan graded PSA NM 7 and a 2017 Panini Prizm Rookie Autographs Patrick Mahomes graded PSA Gem Mint 10 with a PSA/DNA 10 auto.
On the game used memorabilia side of the sale, a 1922-25 Babe Ruth game used bat is offered. The historic club carries a GU 8.5 rating from PSA.
Modern game-used gear includes Joe Burrow’s autographed and inscribed jersey from last December’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs and the jersey worn by 2022 American League MVP Aaron Judge on opening day of his 2017 American League Rookie of the Year season.
One of the finest Ruth single signed baseballs from the Hollywood Collectibles/Rich Altman collection graded PSA/DNA 8 headlines the autographed memorabilia in the catalog, but collectors will also find, Mickey Mantle’s 1955 signed and executed Yankees player’s contract, and a rare President John F. Kennedy single signed baseball from his “Alliance for Progress” tour to South America.
Several PSA/DNA Type 1 original photographs have been consigned to SCP. Among them: a March 4, 1946 Jackie Robinson photo from his first day of organized baseball with the Montreal Royals, an April 10, 1947 image from the day the Brooklyn Dodgers signed him, and a 1920 Ruth home run image from legendary photographer Paul Thompson. In all, over 50 original photos are featured in the sale.
Some historic championship jewelry is on the block through SCP including Hall of Fame rings from legendary pitchers Warren Spahn and Carl Hubbell and another presented to former commissioner Ford Frick. Roosevelt Brown’s 1990 New York Giants Super Bowl XXV ring is also among the lots.
SCP is also offering the collection of former Los Angeles Dodger and five-time MLB All Star Steve Sax. His two World Series rings, two World Series player’s trophies, and numerous other pieces are being offered with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the foundation named for Sax’s son John, who was one of five U.S. Marines who died in a training flight crash last year in California.
