SCP Auctions kicked off its first auction of 2020 Wednesday with a catalog that includes hundreds of lots showcasing graded cards, rare autographs, championship rings and game-used memorabilia.
Among the items up for bid in the 2020 Spring Premier are high-end vintage and modern trading card singles and sets, multiple championship rings and awards from former athletes, game-used Kobe Bryant memorabilia, the skates worn by U.S. Olympic Hockey legend Jim Craig 40 years after the “Miracle On Ice” and even a fresh-to-the-hobby FDR single-signed baseball.
Highlighting the vintage card listings are multiple high-grade, pre-war singles including two elite Ty Cobb cards from 1909, a high-grade 1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig and four top quality Topps baseball sets from 1959 to ’65.
Strong current markets for autograph cards and Michael Jordan mesh with the inclusion of two 1984-85 Star Co. rookie cards blessed with MJ rookie-era signatures (dual-graded), courtesy of the largest known basketball autograph collection. The selection of modern era cards also includes a 2017 Panini Unparalled 1/1 Gold Jersey autograph card that is coming to auction for the first time.
Kobe Bryant memorabilia in the catalog starts with a signed nine-square-foot floor section from the Lower Merion High School court upon which his game was born; three pairs of his game-used shoes (each signed); the jersey he wore in a memorable Sports Illustrated cover shoot; and several early autographs dating back to his high school and early NBA days.
Championship player rings from the 1961 and 1996 Packers, 1978 Yankees, 1983 Sixers and 1994 Rockets combine with a half dozen pieces of premium jewelry from ace pitcher Dave Stewart’s collection give this auction its fair share of bling as well. The auction also includes three FIFA World Cup winner’s medals and the 1963 WWWF Championship belt from Bruno Sammartino (a.k.a. “The Living Legend”), the greatest pro wrestler of all time.
Bidding concludes Saturday, May 2. A portion of its proceeds will be donated to the Bryant family’s Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation along with COVID-19 relief efforts. Visit www.scpauctions.com to learn more.
