Commemorative jerseys from Joe Sakic’s retirement night will enter the collector’s market.
On Opening Night of the 2009-2010 NHL season, the Colorado Avalanche honored Joe Sakic by raising the future Hall of Famer’s No. 19 to the Pepsi Center rafters.
The Avs wore one set of new burgundy jerseys with the Sakic 19 C Retirement Night commemorative patch over the right breasts of their jerseys.
With their captain in attendance, they did Sakic proud by defeating the San Jose Sharks, 5-2, at Pepsi Center in Denver.
MeiGray Group is now offering twenty game-worn jerseys, four game-issued jerseys of Avalanche who were not in the lineup that night, six goal pucks and six game-used pucks with the Sakic "C" Retirement Night logo in a special auction at NHL.com that ends Thursday, Oct. 29.
This set includes:
The jersey worn by 2009 first-round draft pick Matt Duchene in his NHL debut (bidding already over $1200).
The jersey worn by 2009 second-round draft pick Ryan O’Reilly in his NHL debut.
The jersey worn by Adam Foote in his first game as captain. Foote became the first Av other than Sakic to be named team captain in the franchise’s 14 seasons.
Each jersey was authenticated and security-tagged before the game by MeiGray, and checked by an Avs-MGG Program Director after the game.
