The hunt may be on for old autographed World Series ticket stubs after one was turned into a baseball card insert and sold for over $40,000 on eBay.
When creativity, marketing and Babe Ruth converge, the resulting perfect storm can send a sports card into the secondary market stratosphere.
Upper Deck inserted a 1924 World Series ticket stub autographed by Babe Ruth into its Premier product this year. The card, complete with signature authentication from James Spence, was pulled by a New Jersey collector. He put it into the hands of the Beckett empire who launched an eBay auction with plenty of fanfare.
Tuesday night, the 1/1 card closed with 115 bids having been made and a final selling price of $40,100.
