It was up…then down…but today, a 2010 Topps Tribute Legendary Lineups cut autograph card featuring nine signatures will be up for bid again.
The card, pulled from a pack by a Missouri collector, features autographs of the 1927 New York Yankees including Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
The collector consigned the 1 of 1 card to Beckett Select Auctions, but the company pulled it from a scheduled sale almost immediately after several collectors questioned the authenticity of the Ruth and Gehrig cuts.
Already carrying an autograph certificate of authenticity from PSA/DNA, the card was then sent to James Spence Authentication. That company agreed with the assessment that both autographs were indeed real, while adding a caveat that some lesser names near the Gehrig had been “painted over” to highlight Gehrig’s signature.
On Wednesday, Beckett said it was satisfied with both companies’ opinions and was putting the card back up for bid.
Here’s the blog post from Beckett about the latest development.
