Collectors spent $5.3 million and placed more than 13,000 bids on 1,300 lots of memorabilia in Goldin Auctions’ recently completed Babe Ruth 100th Anniversary Auction.
The two-part event featured a live auction on July 12 in Baltimore and an online auction which closed in the early morning hours on Saturday July 19.
“It has been an honor to host this auction in recognition of the 100th anniversary of Babe Ruth’s MLB debut and we could not be more pleased with how it went for consigners, bidders, the industry and our team,” explained Ken Goldin Founder of Goldin Auctions. “Babe Ruth has meant so much to collectors for so long that it was fitting to conduct one of the largest auctions in history in his honor.”
The online auction, which offered more than 1,000 lots including 200 Ruth items closed Saturday morning.
The largest realized price in the second half of the sale was $151,250 for the 1919 Promissory Note from the Yankees to the Red Sox in payment for the sale of Ruth to Boston.
The only player’s ring from the 2000 World Series champion New York Yankees was also among the most sought after items with the ring presented to Jim Leyritz selling for $47,190.
