After the pandemic pushed it to a virtual format last year, the annual live auction held in conjunction with the MLB All-Star Game festivities is back in a live setting this year. As usual, Hunt Auctions will conduct the sale on the day of the game, Tuesday, July 13 at the Colorado Convention Center.
The auction will showcase several significant private collections and highlight items. One of the lead pieces within the sale is a Jimmie Foxx Philadelphia Athletics cap dating to the late 1920s or early 1930s. The soft bill blue and white hat was recently discovered within a Philadelphia area home and dates to the pinnacle of Foxx’s Hall of Fame career. The pre-sale estimate for the hat is $50,000-$75,000.
Another notable highlight that’s on the block a Babe Ruth bat dated to the 1933 season. Rated GU 8 by PSA/DNA, it carries a pre-sale estimate of $75,000-$125,000.
Several other important baseball artifacts deriving from private collections including several former players are being offered. Roberto Clemente’s 1964 Silver Slugger Award (Est. $200,000-$300,000) and 1962 Gold Glove Award (Est. $60,000-$80,000) will be hammered down having originated from the family of Clemente.
Cincinnati Reds fans will see items from Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, and Eric Davis, led by a Bench catcher’s mitt (Est. $15,000-$30,000), Davis’ 1990 Cincinnati Reds World Series trophy (Est. $15,000-$25,000), and Larkin’s 1995 Gold Glove Award (Est. $15,000-$25,000).
