The uniform Ronald Acuña Jr. wore when he swiped his 70th stolen base last year, becoming the first player in Major League Baseball history to record a 40-home run, 70-stolen base season, sold for $245,220 at auction late Saturday night.
Goldin Auctions offered the uniform—unwashed and still containing large dirt stains—as well as the Nike cleats Acuña was wearing that day and the bat he used to hit his 40th home run five days earlier.
The cleats went for $34,160 while the bat netted $47,580.
The jersey was photo matched to numerous other games during the 2023 season.
If they’re willing to pay their own way, the winning bidders of the uniform and bat are being given the chance to meet Acuña for a photo op and signing and inscription session, where he’ll also sign other items for the winners.
The top selling item in the auction was a 2000 Los Angeles Lakers championship ring with ties to Kobe Bryant and is family that netted $927,200—more than five times the price it originally sold for in 2013 and a record for an NBA championship ring. However, it wasn’t Kobe’s personal ring.
The 14-k gold ring with 40 diamonds represents Bryant’s first NBA championship and was a gift from Bryant to his father, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant after the season. He also gave a ring to his mother, Pam.
Contrary to some reports leading up to the auction, the ring sold Saturday night had long left the Bryant family. According to the auction company, the collector who purchased it in 2013 for $174,184 is the person who consigned it to Saturday’s auction.
Another copy of Kobe Bryant’s 2000 title ring, that one presented to his mother, sold for $201,250 three years ago.
A Bryant jersey, photo-matched to use in two games during the Lakers’ 2009-10 championship season and authenticated by MeiGray, sold for just over $100,000.
