Memorabilia agents are now fighting a new major player in the industry–a group run by Cal Ripken Jr.
Ironclad Authentics, LLC has inked a one-year autograph rights deal with 2006 American League batting champion Joe Mauer.
Mauer, who was selected to his first All-Star game in 2006, joined former Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr. and former New York Yankees first baseman Don Mattingly, who have memorabilia deals with Ironclad, one of Ripken’s entrepreneurial ventures.
Through the agreement, all newly signed items featuring the Minnesota Twins’ catcher and 2006 Batting Champwill be sold directly through Ironclad and its distribution channels. Items are already available on Ironclad’s website.
"Joe Mauer is one of the best young players playing in the game today," said Ironclad General Manager Ray Schulte. "His character and approach to the game compliments players such as Mattingly and Ripken, who are also exclusively represented by Ironclad.
With our MLB Authentication partnership, we feel the customer and consumer will feel confident in purchasing and enjoying Joe Mauer exclusive signature products produced by Ironclad."
The 23-year-old Mauer was the No. 1 overall pick by the Twins in the 2001 Major League Baseball draft. He finished No. 6 in the 2006 American League MVP voting.
