It’s been a busy three months for Robert Edward Auctions and their first “big” auction of the year hasn’t even started.
The company’s monthly Encore Auctions have seen nearly 9,000 lots go up for grabs since early January with nearly 110,000 bids entered.
The March event launched Thursday, with nearly 3,400 items, ranging from rare T206s and numerous classic Babe Ruth Goudeys to Jim Brown and Kobe Bryant rookie cards.
It’s the last monthly sale before the company’s annual Spring Catalog Auction, set to open April 6.
The Encore auction includes two rare back T206 Ty Cobbs: a PSA 2 Polar Bear Bat Off Shoulder and a PSA 3 Old Mill Red Portrait as well as a T206 Johnny Evers Broad Leaf 350—the first time REA has ever offered that front/back combination and only the third example ever graded by PSA.
The auction also has a trio of PSA 8 Mickey Mantle cards: 1957, 1964 and 1967, a total of 11 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig cards, a 1958 Topps Jim Brown rookie (SGC 5.5), Jackie Robinson cards from 1948-49 Leaf (PSA 4), 1955 Topps (PSA 8) and 1956 (PSA 7) and an unopened box of 1991 Topps Desert Shield Baseball.
Also on the block is one of Kobe Bryant’s toughest rookie cards: the autographed 1996-97 Score Board numbered 31/300. The card carries a PSA 8 grade with a 10 grade on the signature.
Among the memorabilia offered are signed checks by Baseball Hall of Famers Grover Alexander and Honus Wagner. The Alexander check is a Chicago Cubs payroll payment REA says originated in the collection of a former team executive while the Wagner check is from his personal “John H. Wagner” account and dates to 1927.
“Our March Auction includes a wide range of cards and memorabilia across not only different sports, but a variety of non-sport areas as well, which is very exciting for the growth of our business and speaks to the growing and expansive interests within the hobby,” said Brian Dwyer, President of REA. “We’re receiving auction items from all over the world that are giving our customers a fresh look into how deep this hobby can go and how many unique pieces are really available.”
All items in REA’s March Encore Auction have a starting bid of $10.
Bidding runs through March 19.
