Over 250 unopened boxes and packs are part of the action in Robert Edward Auctions’ first event of 2023. The company’s Encore Auction includes more than 3,000 items. The auction opened Thursday.
The unopened material ranges across every major sport as well as non-sports items. Cello and rack packs from the 1970s and 80s join a 1979 Topps Baseball cello box, a 1981 Topps Football cello box, three wax boxes of 1986 Topps Football and a 1981-82 Topps Basketball wax box.
Also included are hundreds of pre-war trading cards from dozens of different sets. A 1911 T3 Turkey Red Walter Johnson (SGC 4.5), two T206 Ty Cobb (Red Portrait), a PSA 8 T206 Eddie Cicotte and a Christy Mathewson Dark Cap (SGC 5), a 1911-1914 D304 Butter Krust Bread Cy Young PSA 6 and a 1922 E120 American Caramel Babe Ruth are among the offerings.
In all, there are 952 lots of pre-War cards and 34 lots of 19th century cards.
Other highlights include an autographed 1952 Topps Willie Mays and graded copies of some of the hobby’s most well-known rookie cards.
“We’re coming off one of the most substantial years of growth the trading card and memorabilia industry has ever seen,” REA President Brian Dwyer remarked. “The major grading companies graded almost 15 million items last year, including about 9.5 million sports cards, according to Sports Collectors Daily. There’s a very positive outlook for our hobby in 2023.”
There are over 100 lots of baseball autographs including a 1926 Chicago Cubs payroll check signed by Grover Cleveland Alexander.
All items in REA’s January Encore Auction have a starting bid of $10. Bidding will be open through Sunday, January 22.
