Robert Edward Auctions completed its January 2023 Encore Auction Sunday night with more than 3,000 items tallying over $1.1 million. The company says 59,510 bids were placed by a record number of different bidders for an Encore Auction.
The auction, REA’s first of the year, was headlined by the sale of a 1986 Fleer Basketball #57 Michael Jordan Rookie graded PSA MINT 9 for $17,400 along with a signed 1952 Topps #261 Willie Mays graded a Fair 1.5 by PSA with a NM 7 autograph at $16,800.
All items in REA’s Encore events have opening bids of $10 and most items sell for under $1,000. The average selling price Sunday night was about $366.
The auction also included a 1911-1914 D304 Butter Krust Bread Cy Young graded PSA EX-MT 6 that sold for $15,600, and a 1998 Upper Deck SP Authentic Peyton Manning rookie card graded PSA 10 that sold for just under $10,000.

“There’s a very strong outlook for the industry in 2023 and the same goes for REA. The participation in this first event of the year was record-breaking for us, and bidders responded to the wide selection of material that has become the hallmark of these Encore auctions. This was a great start to the year and I’m already excited about what we have lined up for our future auctions, including our Spring Catalog Auction in April, which is already shaping up to be one of our biggest,” said Brian Dwyer, President of REA.
REA will have two more Encore auctions before that, with the first opening Feb. 9. The Spring catalog auction will open April 6.
