The hobby’s biggest show opens in a month in Rosemont, IL and PSA/DNA will be among the companies offering some giveaways during the five-day event at the Stephens Convention Center. One of them could put a valuable piece of wood in your collection.
The company will hold drawings for game-used, signed bats from Derek Jeter, Frank Thomas and Kris Bryant.
“The National Sports Collectors Convention is like the Super Bowl of the hobby, and each year we challenge ourselves to go bigger and better,” said PSA President Joe Orlando. “Each bat is graded a PSA/DNA GU 10.”
The combined value of the bats is over $10,000, according to Orlando.
If you can’t make it to the show, you’ll still have a chance to win one of them. Entries can be made in person at the PSA booth (booth 49), or online at www.PSAcard.com. Entries open July 10, 2017. Bats will be given out in the following order: Thomas (Thursday, July 27), Jeter (Friday, July 28) and Bryant (Saturday, July 29). Winners will be announced each day of the sweepstakes at 4 p.m.
PSA is also offering free custom, encapsulated cards for those who come to the booth and have their photo taken with one of the three bats. That picture will then be placed on a custom trading card and encapsulated in a PSA holder with a PSA special label.
“This is our way of giving back to the collecting community. And what better way to chronicle your time at the National than preserving that memory in a trading card,” said Orlando. “The best part is, it’s free.”
The National will also mark the official release of Legendary Lumber: The Top 100 Player Bats in Baseball History, written by Orlando, with Tom and Ellen Zappala. The Zappalas will be present to sign copies of the book, Friday, July 28, which will be given out to those who purchase a Gold or Platinum PSA Collectors Club membership during the show.
PSA Customer Service will be available, accepting on-site trading card and autograph authentication submissions. Take-home trading card and autograph authentication is also available for all levels of service. A complete breakdown of PSA show services and specials is available on the company’s website.
Visitors to the PSA booth can also receive PSA-graded cards for simply “checking in” on social media. Collectors are encouraged to follow @PSAcard on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for promotional details.
The show takes place July 26-30.
