PSA says it graded and shipped over seven million cards through the first 11 months of 2021. The company released a series of monthly and annual statistics on Thursday as it continues to work through a massive backlog of orders that peaked earlier this year and forced the company to stop accepting submissions at its lowest cost service levels.
In November alone, the company’s staff graded and shipped 731,157 cards, an average of about 24,372 per day. The majority of those cards were submitted at the low cost ‘Value’ or ‘Economy’ service levels at some point prior to PSA’s suspension of services in late March.
The number of graded and shipped cards in November topped October’s output by 23 percent.
It’s clear that modern basketball cards submitted through those low cost service levels still represent the bulk of what the company’s expanded authentication and grading staff is working through. Basketball cards graded and shipped in November totaled 221,193. The second most graded cards were Pokemon (185,978), followed by baseball (142,907), football (107,775) and soccer (19,919).
The most graded basketball cards were once again those of Michael Jordan, followed by Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
Luis Robert, Fernando Tatis Jr., Bo Bichette, Ken Griffey Jr., and Randy Arozarena were the most popular baseball cards processed while the football list was topped by Justin Herbert, Joe Burrow, Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa. Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, Ansu Fati and Erling Haaland were the most popular cards in soccer.
The most graded and shipped subject of any kind was from Pokemon, with 22,633 Charizard topping the list. Michael Jordan cards were second on the list with 18,307 examined and returned to their owners.
