PSA says it has now hired 86 full-time employees since April. The company has been ramping up efforts to deal with a still-growing backlog of customer submissions and a continuing influx of new business.
In an email to customers Wednesday, company president Steve Sloan stated that the new hires were made in receiving, order entry, research, grading and sealing. “Our grading staff alone has grown by over 20% in the past few months and we continue to hire, while maintaining our strict quality standards and training protocols.”
PSA has also hired a recruiter to identify potential candidates for research and grading positions, both areas that will continue to expand.
Earlier this year, the company revealed that its backlog of orders was well over one million units. Company executives say they are shipping several hundred thousand items back to customers each quarter.
Earlier this fall, PSA signed a lease for additional space at its Santa Ana, CA headquarters. The new area will double the company’s space to 125,625 square feet.
“The backlog of orders creates a strain felt by both PSA and our customers,” Sloan wrote. “The investments we are making in growing our operational footprint and our employee roster will go a long way in tackling the backlog and relieving the strain.”
Shares of PSA’s publicly traded parent company, Collectors Universe, broached the $70 mark for the first time on Wednesday.
