Ted Williams only owned one autographed baseball–one he got from Babe Ruth. Joe DiMaggio’s collection consisted of one ball too…but this one was inked by two men who never played an inning in the Major Leagues.
He was always businesslike, expecially when it came to his autograph.
New York Daily News columnist Bill Gallo recalled a night 15 years ago when DiMaggio actually seemed to be having a good time signing. He talked about the one ball he had in his collection–and signed one for another centerfielder who once played in New York.
