Main Line Autographs, the promoter of the popular Robert Morris show held annually at Robert Morris University, has announced a change for the show in 2018. Due to renovations, this year’s show is headed to nearby Monroeville, Pa, a different suburb of Pittsburgh.
The 2018 event will be held at the Monroeville Convention Center situated near Monroeville Mall. It will run from Friday, May 18 through Sunday, May 20.
The former location of the Robert Morris show, the Charles Sewall Center at Robert Morris University, closed last year. In its place, the school is constructing a new facility (the UPMC Events Center) to replace the Sewall Center, which was more than 30 years old. The new facility is the featured piece of a $50 million renovation project, which also will include a new student and fitness center.
The move shouldn’t mean too much for attendees, despite the fact that Monroeville is about 45 minutes east of the former site. The biggest inconvenience will arguably be to those flying into town as the former site was close to the airport and Monroeville is approximately a 45-minute ride away. Still, the show is large and has enough of a following that many in the area that typically attend will still be inclined to go. The move may also bring in attendees that live east of Pittsburgh that typically had not attended the show at the old venue.
No matter the location, this year’s show will again feature a wide variety of dealers specializing both in vintage cards as well as newer material. Dealers and exhibitors are expected from more than 20 states and provinces.
Similarly, just as the show will continue to feature a wide selection of cards, it will also include a big lineup of autograph guests, including plenty of local favorites. Several members of the Pittsburgh Steelers will be on hand, including football Hall of Famers Mel Blount, Jack Lambert, and Rod Woodson as well as Hall of Famers and Pitt greats Chris Doleman and Rickey Jackson. Other big names from outside of the area include Jose Canseco as well as Hall of Famers Bobby Hull, Lenny Moore, and Mel Renfro, and more. Free autographs are advertised to the first 250 paid admissions each day and the event will also include annual door prizes.
Autograph prices vary by player and the item to be signed. The full lineup of guests to appear at the event can be seen on Main Line Autographs’ site.
The first day of the show (Friday the 18th) will run from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Show hours on Saturday are from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and the show will conclude on Sunday with hours from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is $6 per day with free parking. A 3-day pass to the entire event is also available to collectors for $15.
