It was a thief’s dream.
A car with the keys in the ignition.
In Walnut Creek, Calif., Monday, a man who inadvertently left them there saw someone driving away from the McDonald’s parking lot where the vehicle was parked. Also inside…some autographed San Francisco Giants and Willie McCovey memorabilia.
Police aren’t saying how many items there were, but they do say bats, balls and a signed uniform patch were all sitting in inside when the crook took off.
Wednesday, acting on a tip from an alert citizen who spotted the Hyundai Sonata, they were able to corral the car, which also had some of the Stretch-signed items inside.
Not all of it has been recovered, though, and they sort of frown on auto theft too, so police are still looking to track down the suspect. They’ve got a pretty solid picture to go on. The man, in his late 20s or early 30s, was captured on the restaurant’s security camera.
