One of only five graded copies of the 1997 Metal Universe Precious Metal Gems Emmitt Smith cards has surfaced.
The PSA 5 example in the current PWCC auction is one of just 15 produced in the popular PMG insert line. PSA has four graded copies in its Population Report; SGC graded the other.
Among the few that have ever been sold publicly was a PSA 8.5 example that netted $49,200 in September of 2021.
One of the most popular insert sets of the 1990s, the Precious Metal Gems have resulted in some big sales in recent years. A PSA 6 Jerry Rice from the same set sold for $150,000 in October. Two years ago, one of the ten Michael Jordan green PMGs from the 1997 basketball issue netted $915,000.

The only known photograph of Marilyn Monroe inscribed to Joe DiMaggio sold Thursday for $300,000 to set a new auction record for a signed Monroe photograph.
The picture, a publicity still taken in 1953 for Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, was already among the most famous and coveted of Monroe’s portraits. It is now the most valuable, as well.
Inscribed “I love you Joe, Marilyn,” the photo came from the late Yankees star’s estate and included a signed letter from his daughters, Paula DiMaggio Hamra and Kathie DiMaggio Stein.
It was sold as part of an auction of historical items.

The New Yorker who caught Roger Maris’ 61st home run ball in 1961, passed away late last week. Sal Durante offered it back to Maris, who told him to keep it and get what he could for it. A California restauranteur bought it for $5,000 (close to $50,000 today).
The 19-year-old Durante did just that, using the money to get married and eventually started a family but the ball eventually wound up being donated to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
