An auction featuring the baseball memorabilia collection of Charles “Ted” Schmidt and sports negatives from well-known photographer Frank Mastro will be up for bid next week in Amesbury, MA. John McInnis Auctioneers is holding the event.
Schmidt, a Rhode Island resident, was named as one of the first ‘Red Sox Nation Governors’ in 2008.
Among the items consigned through his estate are signed baseballs, signed photos and cards, programs, pennants, magazines and other ephemera. The collection is Boston Red Sox based from the 1940’s up with items from other major and minor league teams. Numerous historic programs and scorecards are also part of the mix.
Frank Mastro was an award-winning photographer based in New York and noted for his work with legendary entertainers from the stage, screen and sports world many years ago. This sale will offer negatives and prints taken by Mastro during his long career.
The photos and negatives in this sale provide an intimate look at many sports heroes such at Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, Billy Martin, Mickey Mantle, Jack Dempsey and Rocky Graziano.
There are many team images including the 1927 NY Yankees, Brooklyn Dodgers and the 1949 World Series winning Yankees.
Collectors may preview the sale in person on Wednesday, July 2 from 11 am to 6 p.m., on the day of the sale beginning at 8 a.m. or via the online catalog with descriptions.
